Acne has a funny way of showing up on your face where everyone can see it, and the urgency to get rid of your zits becomes desperate!
When acne looks back at you in the mirror everyday, you begin to realize it's not actually life threatening, sure it's uncomfortable and painful but certainly not enough of a reason for you to visit your doctor which, like many, may make you feel quite embarrassed.
Finding out that you are suffering from a skin problem that tends to visit you frequently can be very self defeating, especially teenagers who are already suffering hormonal changes as they enter puberty. Dealing with a breakout of zits can make you feel very unattractive, especially in today's society when everything is about how you look.
Unfortunately there are many skin conditions that appear to be acne, but aren't. These acne pretenders go by the names of Rosacea, Keratosis pilaris, and they are probably the one's that closely resemble acne. Pseudofolliculitis Barbae also known as razor bumps, (mostly because not many can actually say the name), but these 'acne' pretenders have even fooled a few doctors into thinking that they're actually acne. So before commencing any treatments, make sure you actually have acne.
The reason that many of us come to develop acne is because the sebaceous glands and hair follicles trigger acne, which means your hair follicles get clogged causing the sebaceous glands to react, these are attached to the hair follicles which then produce an oily substance called sebum.
This sebum when mixed together with some dead skin cells becomes 'sticky' causing your pores to be blocked and when you add even a small amount of bacteria you now have the full recipe for creating a serious acne zit breakout.
In order to help your your body overcome and get rid of zits you need to start with nutrition. By learning to listen to your body, you will come to realize that having a major breakout of zits is your body's way of saying; 'something isn't right inside'.
Redness, inflammation, breakouts, dry skin and many other skin conditions can be the result of poor nutrition.
To maintain healthy looking skin from the inside out, you need to be eating a balanced meal of proteins, good healthy fats, and low-glycemic carbohydrates. Also try to eat essential fatty acids daily consisting of cold water fish, such as salmon and sardines, and remember to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day to help your body flush out toxins that may cause future zits.
